The Twelve Birds of Christmas – An Afternoon with Stephen Moss
Thursday 19th December 2019 – 2.30pm – Elementum Gallery, Sherborne
Join us for a cosy Christmas afternoon of spiced cider and mince pies in the company of author and naturalist Stephen Moss who will introduce us to his latest book, the brilliantly titled The Twelve Birds of Christmas.
'The Twelve Days of Christmas' is by far the best-known Christmas carol. Constantly sung and endlessly parodied, both memorable and infuriating, it perfectly captures the spirit of this time of year. Stephen digs beneath the surface to discover an alternative meaning to the verses and reveals that in his view this is, indeed, a bird-centred tribute to the Festive Season. He weaves history, culture, bird behaviour and folklore into a compelling narrative for each species, tracing its fortunes over the past two centuries, and ending with a powerful message about the plight of some of our best-loved birds.'
What a perfect start to the holiday season and we look forward to welcoming you.
Mince pies and mulled wine or spiced cider are served from 2.30pm, event begins at 3pm and finishes around 4pm.
Please bring your order confirmation as proof of purchase.
